Wild turkeys are pretty abundant around here. we have three females and a male that stop traffic in our neighborhood on a regular basis as they slowly walk down the street. I cannot explain why they like hanging out in the middle of the road, but they do. I have seen one of our neighborhood turkeys going after a delivery driver who carried a broom with him that came in handy to protect himself from just such a problem. Several people living on that street came out with their own tools of choice to help this poor delivery driver. I promise, no turkey was injured, just redirected. They can be very stubborn birds. This is not that turkey, but the bench in the background of this image reminds me of how comfortable these birds have become around people. This guy was putting on a great show for one lovely lady who was playing hard to get. I never saw her lift her head from eating to even acknowledge his presence...poor guy!

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England. I started taking pictures around the age of 10, borrowing my dad's point and shoot to document my adventures during a trip to Colorado with close family friends.
