Artist's Description
I found a pair of Mallards at Wollomonopoag (say that three times fast) Conservation Area. The male paddled away first, but his lady friend was right behind him. I've noticed lately that the male is usually the one that takes off first, and the females seem more relaxed. This must be a protective measure on the male's part. I'll watch to see if the trend continues. Once the ducklings arrive, Mom definitely becomes more guarded.
