What a beauty, and I don't believe I've seen this butterfly before. According to my app, it's a Red-spotted Purple Butterfly. Oddly, there doesn't appear to be any red or purple on this butterfly. Instead, when the wings are opened, they are a deep velvety blue color, and the wings have orange spots. I think Orange-spotted Blue Butterfly makes more sense, don't you?

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England.
