Dark-eyed Juncos have been nicknamed snowbirds. Maybe it's just a New England thing? I really don't know, but they are winter visitors, and they seem to come to life when it snows. It's not uncommon to see them on the snow, on the ground, in groups, looking for food. This handsome male is staying fluffed up to stay warm during a short snowfall.

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England. I started taking pictures around the age of 10, borrowing my dad's point and shoot to document my adventures during a trip to Colorado with close family friends. My love of animals and all of God's creation has inspired me ever since. There are so many details to discover outdoors, from bees collecting nectar to the great expanse of mountains and oceans.
