Sanderlings (the bird in the back) are not particularly big, but this one towers over the smaller Semipalmated Sandpiper (in the front). This Sanderling and the rest of the rest of the sanderlings didn't seem to mind the temporary addition of this small Sandpiper to their group as they fed along the shore. Both birds are great fun to watch!

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England.
