I've taken enough water pictures to at least have some expectation of what I might see when I download my photos, but water pictures are always a surprise to some degree. The combination of this mallard drake with the water reflections was quite the surprise. That light patch on this male's cheek was distinct to him, and it enabled me to identify him as one I had seen a few days earlier on the canal.

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England. I started taking pictures around the age of 10, borrowing my dad's point and shoot to document my adventures during a trip to Colorado with close family friends.
