It was a hot day, and we picked an easy walk just to get outside for a bit. We were in an area that was under shade cover, and everything was a little dark, and green was the color in every direction, but growing along the edges of a tiny stream was this Cardinal Flower. Upon further investigation, I found a few more growing on the other side of the road too. They would have easily been missed as the stream was recessed about a foot into the ground, and the flowers were growing in that recessed area. That bright scarlet red lit up the area beautifully.

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England.
