It's that time of year when the shorebirds move around. Our last walk at the beach was void of Piping Plovers, and almost void of Terns, but the some Sanderlings have returned for the winter and Semipalmated Sandpipers are migrating through. If you look closely, there is one of these little Semipalmated Sandpipers (on the left) mixed in with a group of Sanderlings. I don't believe it will be separated from its group for too long, because a small group of Semipalmated Sandpipers took off as a couple of beach walkers approached them. While I was watching, it was quite comfortable joining the Sanderlings as they fed on the shore.

I grew up in Kansas, just outside of Kansas City, and while some might find the endless rolling plains to be boring, I love the open space and fantastic sunsets. I have since lived in Minnesota, Rhode Island (briefly), New Hampshire, and now reside in Massachusetts. Most of my photos were taken in New England.
