Description
New England has no shortage of forested areas, but there was a time when the early New Englanders cleared much of the land for farming. Rocks cleared from the land for farming were stacked to establish property boundaries. Today, the re-forested areas still have many of those rock boundaries that don't seem to make sense in their new environment, but they have become a place for moss and lichen to grow and provide great hiding places for little critters like chipmunks.
