The only reason I have this shot is because there’s a brief hover just before the divebomb 😂. And no, I wasn’t trying to get close to their nests. Thank you Hugh.

Artist's Description

What do you call a dive-bombing tern during nesting season? A good parent. Least Terns lay their eggs right in the sand. Their eggs and chicks are vulnerable to all types of predators, but tern parents mount a coordinated attack against anyone or anything that enters their nesting area. Despite my efforts to keep my distance, walking as close to the water as I could, there were some very good parents who let me know how unhappy they were with me. They were quite aggressive, coming within about a foot of my head, while I waved my arms to scare them off. They're beautiful when they're mad, aren't they?Image photographed in Rhode Island.

Linda Bonaccorsi

Linda Bonaccorsi, owner of EveryBitBeautiful, is a self-taught, outdoor photographer based in Massachusetts. She took her first pictures at the age of 10 with her father’s point and shoot. Inspired by creation and the joy of being outdoors, Linda’s philosophy is that there is “Beauty in Every Bit”. Her hope is to reveal not just the expected but unexpected, and to inspire others to take the time to appreciate the beauty around them. While by no means a newcomer to photography, Linda is an emerging artist who is a current member...
